Troubleshooting Audio and Sound Issues During Calls
Last updated: June 2, 2026
If you're experiencing audio problems during calls — such as not being able to hear the other party, them not being able to hear you, choppy or distorted sound, or audio dropping after receiving an inbound call — there are several steps you can take to resolve the issue.
Quick Fixes to Try First
Test your microphone — Use the built-in mic test available before dialing to confirm your audio input is working correctly.
Quit and reopen your browser — Fully closing and relaunching your browser can resolve many transient audio issues.
Try an incognito/private window — Browser extensions or cached data can sometimes interfere with audio. Opening an incognito window can help isolate this.
Switch networks — If possible, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network to rule out connectivity-related audio problems.
Disable your VPN — VPNs can introduce latency and audio degradation. Try turning off your VPN and redialing.
Microphone and Headset Recommendations
Audio quality is heavily influenced by your input device. Here are some tips:
Use a headset or earphones — Using a headset (including earbuds like Apple AirPods) significantly improves audio quality compared to relying on built-in laptop speakers and microphones. Many users report noticeably better call quality after switching to a headset.
Check your microphone for obstructions — If your microphone sounds muffled or distorted, try gently blowing into it to clear any dust that may be causing interference.
Test your audio by calling yourself — A quick way to verify your audio quality is to place a test call to your own number and listen to the playback.
Reviewing Call Recordings
If you're unsure whether an audio issue was on your end or the prospect's end, reviewing the call recording can help. In some cases, audio may be captured in the recording even if it wasn't audible during the live call, which can help pinpoint where the problem occurred.
